Murs - Christmas Rules Everything Around Me

Los Angeles rapper Murs comes through with his latest single, "Christmas Rules Everything Around Me", which is produced by Curtiss King. I never really thought of flipping Wu-Tang's acronym for C.R.E.A.M. into a Christmas track, so I'm diggin' the originality here.
"If you know me you know I LOVE Christmas," says Murs. "I've always wanted to make Xmas song. It's corny it's silly it's fun and I LOVE it!"
Dope.

Vers'tyle - Rogue Of The Mold

"Rogue Of The Mold" is the second album from Montclair, NJ emcee Vers'tyle. The album features guest appearances from Rob Deech and Lynx as well as production by ANS, Kashmill, AxL Beatz and Superstar O.
"This album is a declaration of my defiance as an artist. Stating that I no longer feel the need to blend in, or make tracks like what is already out (my approach in the album The Unveiling). Knowing that a sound that's different is the road less traveled, but once people catch on, it's the same road that keeps listeners on-board."
Nice. Peep it below.

Dope shit.

"The reason why its called Tax Free is because no label is taxing my flows to get released. It’s also just a bar for bar mix to show the fans and listeners that don’t know much of me where my lyrical skills are."
Nice. Check it out below.

ERAMATICS - L.A.B. (Video)

"L.A.B." is the latest single from Brooklyn, NY trio ERAMATICS (which consists of TahJmall, Ziiion, and LEXINGTON). The trio is currently working on their debut project, which is untitled as-of-yet and is set to be released in the second quarter of 2014.

Busta Rhymes and Q-Tip - The Abstract and The Dragon (Mixtape)

The song is just a loosie and is not featured on his latest album, "Reality Provoking Liberation", which was released back on October 28th and is one of the better albums of 2013. Very nice.

Rod McCoy – Bittersweet

Military veteran and emcee Rod McCoy comes through with his latest track, "Bittersweet", which features Rod spitting some meaningful lyrics over a head-nodding J1K instrumental. The beat is ill and Rod McCoy rips it, spitting vivid lyrics in a smooth flow.
"The song is a narrative story of a woman who fell in love with the man of her dreams, better yet, a shell of who this man really was. After reaching the highest point of their relationship, on the daily she was brought down to the lowest. The man that was once her everything, had now become only the father of her son and her constant nightmare. When hustling defines your income there's always a risk of demise. Bullets have no name and the streets have no referees. For one reason or another, this woman's boyfriend had his life taken and her conscious was left in a constant battle of emotions. Bittersweet was the thought of her son's father losing his life; in one hand, the only man she has known is now gone - in the other, so is her dictator and abuser. Constantly she questions how she "should" feel but who's to provide the answer?"
 Dope.

Reason - The Intro (Video)

Brooklyn emcee Reason comes through with an official video for the track "The Intro" off of his "1 Reason Only LP." My first time really hearing him spit a verse was on Raekwon's "The Brewery" (off of his "Unexpected Victory" mixtape that dropped in 2012), but I haven't heard much since then. Until now. The full "1 Reason Only LP" is dope and showcases Reasons rough and rugged delivery over some hard ass instrumentals. Check out both the video and the LP below.

Cormega - Honorable (featuring Raekwon)

Queens emcee Cormega links up with Wu-Tang Clan's Raekwon and releases a fire track entitled "Honorable." The song features both emcees spitting darts over a head-nodding boom-bap banger. I didn't see any word of where this track is going to end up, but it might be a cut from Cormega's upcoming album, "Mega Philosophy", which will be fully produced by Large Professor. No matter where it ends up, the track is definitely ill.

G-Side - 4Ever (Single)

Now this is great news. One of my favorite hip-hop duos, G-Side (comprised of emcees Clova and S.T. 2 Lettaz), reunite with their first single since their 2011 album "iSLAND." The group broke up shortly after that album was released as both emcees pursued solo careers, with S.T. dropping one of my favorite albums of 2013 with "The G... Growth And Development". Since then all has been pretty quite ... until now. The first single is called "4Ever" and features both emcees ripping what sounds like a BlockBeattaz instrumental. Their new album, "Gz to Godz", is slated to be released in early 2014.

Don Cerino - DOWNtime (Album)

Another ill album that I just got a chance to listen to is Don Cerino's latest offering, "DOWNtime." The album is fully produced by Duque Nuquem, who crafts some really beautiful instrumentals with a strong 90's feel to them, and features verses from City Da God, kMFj, Croup and Jewbei in addition to Don Cerino himself. I'm not sure which song is my favorite yet, but I'm really feelin' the laid-back feel of "SITstill", which samples Kendrick Lamars "Is It Love" off of the "Kendrick Lamar EP." Very dope. Hopefully I get to hear more from Don Cerino in the future.

J.Holmes - Woodward's Gardens (Album)

San Francisco musician and producer J.Holmes recently sent me his latest album, "Woodward's Gardens", which features an array of talented bay area vocalists, including R.C., Net EQ, Matt Furey, TN Castro, Mike, Sani, and Gravy. The album is really dope and has a nice throwback feel to it reminiscent of the "Golden Era" of hip-hop. The beats should get your head-nodding and the rhymes are sharp and creative. You can download the full album (along with instrumentals) for free over on the Up Late Records website or via the Bandcamp link below.

Denzel Himself - Young Insolent

"Young Insolent" is the debut single from upcoming South London rapper/producer Denzel Himself, who is also one half of Brxtherhood, a creative partnership with Gabriella Skies for whom he produced "Burnouts" (her debut EP which was released in 2012).
"A response to the feeling that much of today’s music is based too much in jest, ‘Young Insolent’ is stripped down, black and white aesthetically and is just the first installment of a cold-blooded approach that Denzel intends to deliver upon hip-hop and urban culture."
Very nice.

The Cypher Effect (S2E26 and S2E27) (Freestyle Session)

The Cypher Effect decided to release two episodes this week, with each featuring a ton of dope emcees kicking rhymes over head-nodding instrumentals. The cypher was lead by Lead By DJ Xist, features an instrumental by DJ iSICK and was shot by JDS Films at The Social Lohuge in Chatsworth, CA.

Professor Lyrical is a full-time college professor and emcee from Boston, MA who has been in the rap game for over 25 years now. He recently dropped a new album, "Put Em All To Shame", that was co-signed by the legendary Chuck D of Public Enemy. I gave the album a good listen today and it's really dope, with Professor Lyrical spitting darts over head-nodding, old-school influenced instrumentals. This project brings me back to the Golden Era of hip-hop. Don't sleep on this shit.

The album features appearances from members of Anticon, tUnE-yArDs, Living Colour and The Decemberists as well as Busdriver, 1-O.A.K. and more. For now, check out the video below.

O.B. and SaFE -- You and I (Video)

"You & I" is the first single from Paterson, NJ rapper and M.O.B. Stars leader O.B.'s upcoming album "Celestial Offerings." The song features fellow M.O.B. Stars member SaFE and is produced by Reese Jones.
"The song was inspired by a need to bring back that competitive edge in hip hop," says O.B. "Not a lot of rappers at the time of its conception were delivering a lot of wit and aggressiveness while still being lyrical. We sought out to do just that and remain extremely polished at the same time. The video deals with the concept of 'In A Perfect World'. In that world, people, particularly women, wouldn't stray from very lyrical, intellectual hip hop. In fact, it would be essential and a part of their daily lives just like a lot of the mainstream stuff is. We wanted to show people who were just as dedicated to our music and by doing so, breaking the taboos surrounding underground and indie artists."
"Celestial Offerings" drops November 30 featuring J Nolan, Culture Kev, Dano B. Picasso, Bretagne, RaCharm, Arkutec, Bravestarr, QB Da Problem, Kingshon and Nu Vintage.

'Better Than This' boasts tightly coiled production with overwhelming bass lines and reverberant drum patterns, clipped samples and occasional vocals, that give the track a gritty feel with a universal appeal."
