"The term "Ownlife" was an idea introduced by author George Orwell in his classic book, 1984. The word is defined as such: "Ownlife refers to the tendency to enjoy being solitary or individualistic, which is considered subversive. The song is produced by XEptional and features the turntablism of DJ Overflow with cameos by Meres One and COPE2. "The Krylon" is poised on highlighting ideals of the graffiti culture in it's lyrical narrative in which the two emcees rhyme about nostalgic and contemporary notions of their experiences and memories of the art form. The video is directed by Nestor Narvaez and Alberic Finhol and features the art of Regimental Oneton, while paying specific homage to 5Pointz where part of the video was shot.
"As 5Pointz was to become a Mecca for Graffiti by means of attracting legendary writers from the likes of Stay High 149, SPE, Tracy 168, COPE2 and Tats Cru, it was also to become a location menaced by the interests of corporate real-estate and big-money capitalism. In essence, 5Pointz was to signify a meeting point of various styles converging from five boroughs into One Voltron. Little was anyone to know that the location was to bring artists from around the world to come together."

Freestyle Rap Battle Website -

I got an interesting email the other day about a website that is the first website to launch that hosts rap battles and freestyles over a live video stream. The site is and the concept sounds kinda dope.
"How it works is two users get matched up (which I will explain next) and then a beat plays with a 1 minute timer where one user is muted so the other can rap and then they alternate. There is also a 10 second period between rounds where users can both communicate/talk trash etc.

User's can select to "Quick Battle" and get paired with randomly anyone around the world (sort of like a chat roulette of rap). Or they can "Start a Battle" and in 2 clicks post a tweet/status with a link to their battle (and pre-generated text explaining what it is) to Twitter or Facebook that invites their friends to join their battle.

In the future, we are going to have a new feature called "Ranked Battle" and it will pair users randomly, and that is when we are going to implement voting, comments and rankings/leaderboard. There are many features to come especially on a social networking side, but we just want to keep them under wraps for now.

All in all, we wanted to create place for rappers, hobbyists, and fans alike, because there really is no real-time place for them to interact on the internet and this is it. Producers will also have the opportunity to have their beats used in battles and they can send them to We can be found on Facebook & Twitter."
I'm not a rapper myself, but I figured some of you may be interested in participating in some freestyle rap battles, especially against your friends. Head on over to and check it out.
