Lyrically iLLz - Down To Earth

New York City based emcee Lyrically iLLz recently dropped his latest mixtape, "Down To Earth", back on December 17, 2013 over on his Bandcamp page. I gave the tape a good listen and its dope, with Lyrically iLLz and guests kicking rhymes over a variety of instrumentals. The beats range from more traditional boom-bap bangers to Wale and Portishead reworks while the rhymes take it back to an era where lyrics were actually important. Check it out below.

Murs - Christmas Rules Everything Around Me

Los Angeles rapper Murs comes through with his latest single, "Christmas Rules Everything Around Me", which is produced by Curtiss King. I never really thought of flipping Wu-Tang's acronym for C.R.E.A.M. into a Christmas track, so I'm diggin' the originality here.
"If you know me you know I LOVE Christmas," says Murs. "I've always wanted to make Xmas song. It's corny it's silly it's fun and I LOVE it!"

LOTenI is a 23 year old emcee from Windhoek North, Namibia who is currently residing in Washington DC and who recently just dropped an ill video for the track "The Edge of the Universe." The song is dope and is his take on Canadian trio Down To Erf's 1996 track "Learn To Earn", which is some great throwback boom-bap. Check it out below.

Vers'tyle - Rogue Of The Mold

"Rogue Of The Mold" is the second album from Montclair, NJ emcee Vers'tyle. The album features guest appearances from Rob Deech and Lynx as well as production by ANS, Kashmill, AxL Beatz and Superstar O.
"This album is a declaration of my defiance as an artist. Stating that I no longer feel the need to blend in, or make tracks like what is already out (my approach in the album The Unveiling). Knowing that a sound that's different is the road less traveled, but once people catch on, it's the same road that keeps listeners on-board."
Nice. Peep it below.

"I started this label as a platform for all the hard working artists out there  I felt deserved a more. I for one believe that this game is 10% talent and 90% work ethic. And you won't find one lazy artist on this roster."
Dope shit.

"The reason why its called Tax Free is because no label is taxing my flows to get released. It’s also just a bar for bar mix to show the fans and listeners that don’t know much of me where my lyrical skills are."
Nice. Check it out below.

ERAMATICS - L.A.B. (Video)

"L.A.B." is the latest single from Brooklyn, NY trio ERAMATICS (which consists of TahJmall, Ziiion, and LEXINGTON). The song is dope and builds off of that boom-bap sound of hip-hop's "Golden Era", but modernizes it to make it still sound fresh. The trio is currently working on their debut project, which is untitled as-of-yet and is set to be released in the second quarter of 2014.

Busta Rhymes and Q-Tip - The Abstract and The Dragon (Mixtape)

Busta Rhymes and A Tribe Called Quests Q-Tip released a new mixtape yesterday over on Livemixtapes.com. San Diego by way of Fullerton, CA emcee Junoflo recently put me on to his latest mixtape, "Soul Season", that he dropped back in late November 2013. The song is just a loosie and is not featured on his latest album, "Reality Provoking Liberation", which was released back on October 28th and is one of the better albums of 2013. Very nice.

Rod McCoy – Bittersweet

Military veteran and emcee Rod McCoy comes through with his latest track, "Bittersweet", which features Rod spitting some meaningful lyrics over a head-nodding J1K instrumental. The beat is ill and Rod McCoy rips it, spitting vivid lyrics in a smooth flow.
"The song is a narrative story of a woman who fell in love with the man of her dreams, better yet, a shell of who this man really was. After reaching the highest point of their relationship, on the daily she was brought down to the lowest. The man that was once her everything, had now become only the father of her son and her constant nightmare. When hustling defines your income there's always a risk of demise. Bullets have no name and the streets have no referees. For one reason or another, this woman's boyfriend had his life taken and her conscious was left in a constant battle of emotions. Bittersweet was the thought of her son's father losing his life; in one hand, the only man she has known is now gone - in the other, so is her dictator and abuser. Constantly she questions how she "should" feel but who's to provide the answer?"

Aruzo and DJ Slime - Remixed It 2

Aruzo and DJ Slime dropped a collaborative remix album back in September that I thought was pretty dope. The album features Aruzo's take on classics from Little Brother, Slum Village, Evidence, Erykah Badu and more while DJ Slime provides the cuts. It's always nice to hear alternate versions of classic tracks and I'm really feelin' the smooth sounds crafted by these two. Check out the tracklisting and full album below.

2) Little Brother x Carlitta Durand - Life of the party

7) Royce da 5’9 x Elzhi x Supastition - Best to do it

Reason - The Intro (Video)

Brooklyn emcee Reason comes through with an official video for the track "The Intro" off of his "1 Reason Only LP." I don't know much about Reason as an emcee, but what little I do know has impressed me. My first time really hearing him spit a verse was on Raekwon's "The Brewery" (off of his "Unexpected Victory" mixtape that dropped in 2012), but I haven't heard much since then. Until now. The full "1 Reason Only LP" is dope and showcases Reasons rough and rugged delivery over some hard ass instrumentals. Check out both the video and the LP below.
